six basic tips to feel full with a low calorie intake
- wait until you’re hungry to eat, and then wait a little longer if you can do it. do not eat just because you feel bored, or because you just want food in your mouth. waiting until your body needs it helps drill in that you should only eat when you’re hungry.
- don’t eat three square meals, if at all possible. eat small, low-cal healthy snacks throughout the day. sip at a smoothie throughout the morning, snack on celery with organic peanut butter in the afternoon. lots of little food gives you more energy and makes you feel more full for longer than a little bit of a lot of food does.
- if you eat full meals, eat them on a small plate/in a small bowl. this makes it seem like you’re eating more food than you would be with a larger plate. do not eat everything on the plate! that will help with self-control, which in turn will help you feel less hungry.
- when you eat, chew your food. chew it until it has no taste and then keep chewing. swallow, and take a break before eating any more. this helps your brain realize that your body is getting energy, and it’ll signal that you aren’t hungry any longer after eating less food.
- if you’re fasting, stick to it. sometimes this is really difficult - if you feel the urge to binge, or feel like you need food in your mouth, go with vegetables or fruit that are mostly water and low or negative cal. vegetables like celery, cucumber, turnips, and radishes, as well as fruits such as blueberries, canteloupe, grapefruit, apples, and oranges are great for this because they have the negative calorie effect. you expend a few more calories to digest them than you do to eat them. eat a few blueberries or slice up a cucumber, just make sure you keep to small amounts.
- drink lots of fluids, preferably with no calories. water is good. tea is better if you want something sweet, but don’t add sugar, honey or milk. just leave the teabag in for longer for a stronger taste. if it helps, get an 8oz water bottle and make sure you drink it and refill it at least eight times a day. water does not have any calories, but it takes up room in your stomach. it’ll help you feel full, and it’s a thing that you need to survive. an added bonus to green tea is that it actually helps you burn fat!
